20 Chantrezac is the perfect rural retreat. Nestled beside the ancient church in the picturesque hamlet of Chantrezac, its ten acre setting is bounded on one side by a small woodland, and the river Charente on another.

Relax in the sheltered walled garden, or follow the pathway around the meadow, pause to listen to birdsong in the woods or picnic by the river.

Where possible, all food served is home produced, locally sourced or organic. We use no chemicals on our home grown produce, or indeed anywhere in our grounds.

Distilleries and Wineries

Visit famous cognac distilleries  such as Hennessy, Courvoisier and Remy Martin, in the beautiful riverside towns of Cognac and Jarnac, or explore the countryside around St Emilion, and stop off at a vineyard to sample the famous Bordeaux wine.

Cultural Sites

Why not visit the stunning chateaux of the area. Our favourites are La Rochefoucauld, Verteuil- Sur-Charente and Rochechouart, which, alongside its 16th century frescos, is home to a museum of contemporary art.

Motor Sport

From  the annual Circuit des Ramparts classic car rally around the ancient streets of Angouleme, to the Val de Vienne  race track which hosts more than 250 days of auto and motorcycle sports activities each year, including 12 weekends of national and international competitions.

Leisure Activities

A twenty minute drive  takes you to the lakes of Haute Charente, popular for windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing, canoeing and swimming. There are sandy beaches shaded by oaks and willows with plenty of picnic spots, trails for ramblers, and restaurants.

Towns / Cities

Angouleme is the 'city of festivals' including its international comic book festival and the classic car rally.

Limoges is the capital of porcelain, with its beautifully preserved half timbered buildings.

Bordeaux, most famous  for its wine, but take time to explore its elegant streets and imposing architecture.

Atlantic coast

A two hour drive will take you to the Atlantic beaches and coastal town of Rochefort with its maritime history. Travel 30 minutes north from there and  you will reach picturesque  La Rochelle, 30 minutes south will take you to the famous beaches of Royan.

"Beautiful French country house in beautiful tranquil surroundings. A perfect base to explore the area. The accommodation, food and service is first class! The hosts are accommodating, flexible and can’t do enough for you. The best place I’ve stayed in France, will definitely be rebooking for next year! Thank you for your hospitality and excellent customer service."
