French capital of the comic strip and designated City of Art and History, Angoulême sits high above the Charente river and is surrounded by ramparts.
For 3 days every September, the Circuit International des Remparts transforms Angoulême into a gigantic rolling museum. For lovers of vintage cars this is definitely not to be missed, as classic cars race around the ancient ramparts.
The International Comic Strip Festival has taken place in Angoulême every year in January since 1974. This gathering is a chance for professionals from all over the world to meet some 200,000 fans. For four days, publishers set up stands in giant tents, for signings, exhibitions, screenings, debates, conferences, meetings, concerts and a competition with selected albums. For younger people, the youth area has a range of activities, games and all sorts of workshops.
